The S.U.G. Transit pictured above features an ana-digital World timepiece, silver carbon fiber dial, stainless steel case, digital display, world time, daylight savings time, auto calendar, 12/24 hour formats, alarm 1/100th second stop watch, countdown timer, luminous hands and markers, Japanese Citizen T270 ana-digital quartz movement, PVC rubber strap with stainless steel buckle, and water resistance up to 3 ATM.
The S.U.G. watch collection contains sixty-one models for men ranging alphabetically from Abyss to Wrath. S.U.G. watches are available in both quartz and automatic movements. Even though S.U.G. watches are made in Switzerland, Japan and China, they all contain qualities and features of fine watches for the sportsman. They are both rugged and beautiful. Various features include rotating bezels, chronographs, exhibition backs to view inner movements and "coined detail" that provides a serrated texture similiar to a coin's edge to give the case more depth and a 3-D appearance. All but three S.U.G. watch models have luminous hands.
HISTORY: In 1883, a Winterthur watchmaker by the name of Gottilieb Hauser brainstormed the idea for the Swiss Watchmakers Corporation (Schweizerische-Uherenmacher-Genossenschaft) [no wonder they are refered to as S.U.G. watches] as a distributor of standardized Swiss watch components. Once the word got out, other watchmakers rushed to join this organization with the guarantee that it would boost their productivity and output. Eventually S.U.G. as it was later dubbed, evolved to the point that it was not only distributing parts, but creating them as well.
The beginning of the 19th century marked a renewed ambition to produce many cutting edge contraptions so life could be made simpler. Soon water and earth were populated by steamboats and railroads, and these new inventions were no longer reserved for only the wealthy. The expanded need for timekeeping and scheduling escalated the sale of pocket watches not only for the conductors and steamboat crews, but for their customers. The sheer fascination with timekeeping was suddenly tranformed from an indulgence for higher society into a necessity for everyone. During the 1880's, the demand for watch parts greatly outweighted the supply. Corporations like S.U.G. were created to directly distribute watch parts from one company to another, saving them a great deal of time and money.
Derived from the influence of the Swiss Watchmakers Corporation there was a determination to continually advance many aspects of contemporary watch making. The ostentatious watches fom S.U.G. symbolize the eternal persistence that humanity has to test the limits of our imagination.
